Program Overview
The Internal Medicine Residency program at Baptist Memorial Hospital–North Mississippi offers a well-rounded, unopposed, and unique training experience for physicians in a setting that is second-to-none.
In September 2023, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) awarded continued accreditation to the Internal Medicine Residency program at Baptist North Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi. The program, sponsored by Baptist Memorial Medical Education, welcomed the first class of residents to Oxford in July 2021, and reached its full complement of 36 resident physicians in July 2023.
First-Class Learning and Working Experience
A core faculty and teaching staff with decades of experience laid the groundwork for an innovative and first-class learning and working experience in Oxford, Mississippi, that centers around camaraderie, resilience, mentorship, leadership, and well-being.
With Baptist Memorial Medical Education as its sponsoring institution, the program’s residents will be fully prepared to practice medicine by mastering the required curricula, disciplines, and technologies to succeed as internal medicine physicians.
The highly focused, tailored program that is planned offers residents the chance to train alongside some of the brightest minds in the region. The curriculum is designed to promote a culture of resilience through intervals of intense training and more relaxed learning experiences.
Program Aims
1. Provide education that meets or exceeds ACGME and board requirements while incorporating the Baptist mission tenets throughout the curriculum.
2. Train, mentor, and ensure the competency of residents in: Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Interpersonal and Communication Skills,
Professionalism, Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, and Systems-Based Practice.
3. Prepare residents to anticipate and serve the unique healthcare needs of adult patients in North Mississippi, with particular attention to the
extensive underserved population.
4. Develop physician leaders who are dedicated to promoting improvements in healthcare quality, patient safety, and high value care.
5. Foster a family-like culture of learning and patient care environment that is contagious among the medical staff, clinical and administrative teams,
and the greater community.
