Plans Underway to Welcome Fourth-Year Medical Students to Baptist North Mississippi on Audition Rotations
Even though the first class of resident physicians have yet to arrive on campus at Baptist Memorial Hospital–North Mississippi, preparations are already being made to welcome fourth-year medical students for audition rotations later this year in an effort to pave the way for the second incoming class of PGY1s in 2022.
Many students arrange for rotations that last several weeks in the specialty or specialties of their choice at the facilities of their choice. This allows the future physicians to exhibit their skills in real life to residency leadership, faculty and trainees. It also provides students who will soon be transitioning into residency training an inside look into a program’s culture – both in an academic sense and also socially. This invaluable experience can reveal to a potential resident how and where they might fit in should they match with that program to complete their training, not to mention provide a chance to explore the town and surrounding areas.
The goal of audition rotations is to provide an immersive learning experience that truly allows the student to experience what life will be like as a resident physician in our internal medicine residency program. Students will function as an integrated member of the patient care team, in a collaborative and supportive learning environment with exposure to all aspects of inpatient internal medicine at our facility. Students will also participate in daily didactic sessions, social activities, and exposure to our continuity clinic to round out the experience.
Audition rotations at Baptist Memorial Hospital–North Mississippi are reserved for fourth-year students at medical schools with which Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation has an affiliation and will be scheduled from August – December.
