Construction on the new home of Graduate Medical Education at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi continues to shape up quickly. Located on the third floor of the Medical Plaza One building, which is attached to the main hospital, the new space includes a lecture hall, simulation area, offices, and conference room. The design is meant to provide an optimum training experience and enhance productivity in the trainees’ busy schedules, all in a comfortable environment.

The existing space underwent rapid transformation from an open and empty area. An entry hall was created that leads into the department, with doorways added for access to the lecture hall from three directions, as well as the addition of a second doorway into an existing conference room directly from the GME area. In the coming weeks, the finishing touches are expected to be completed, including installation of accordion-style walls. These dividers can be left open to create a large open meeting area that can accommodate approximately 70 people, or they can be separated into three rooms where meetings can be conducted concurrently.

The final phase of this first buildout will be the addition of state-of-the-art audiovisual capabilities and is slated to coincide with the end of the construction in late May. In just a few short weeks, program leaders look forward to hosting resident physician orientation, a physician leadership lunch and learn event, and the everyday activities that surround Graduate Medical Education.
